The eternal desire of man: to be born again
According to the Gospel accounts, two thousand years ago, at night, a renowned Jewish dignitary, Nicodemus, secretly visited Jesus, who was considered a controversial teacher at the time. Jesus of Nazareth was considered a disrupter and revolutionary among the religious hierarchy. Despite this negative reputation, Nicodemus reacted seriously to Jesus' declaration that he must be born again to enter the eternal world under God's authority. After all, he had come to Jesus to learn the truth about the future. In the ensuing conversation, Nicodemus asked Jesus for further clarification of his doubts, believing he would once again receive more truth. He felt he was dealing with a Person possessing sufficient spiritual knowledge to speak about the unknown future that awaits us. Jesus' statement that he, Nicodemus, an expert and scribe, should know how we are to be born again must have come as a great shock to him. This suggests that, according to Jesus, the knowledge of the necessity of being born again was already contained in the Israelite Scriptures.
Understanding the answer to the question of the Kingdom of Heaven intrigues many people to this day. It concerns what will happen once we are in a reality other than our present one, that is, in the eternal spiritual world. Therefore, we do not know what life is like there, what we will do there, or whether we will be truly happy there. Our doubts can be expressed another way: will we live forever in the Kingdom of the Heavenly Father?.
